MS unveils Platform Security and Audit Handbook '09

MUMBAI, INDIA: Microsoft India is pleased to launch the Microsoft Platform Security and Audit Handbook 2009. This handbook is developed specifically for security professionals and auditors, aimed at providing guidance to the IT Security Auditors and the financial institutions when it comes to assessing and evaluating security risks and the adequacy of the risk management exercise being undertaken by the organization.

Microsoft Platform Security and Audit Handbook is in consistent with Microsoft's efforts worldwide to ensure security across the technology ecosystem. Along with the “Handbook” Microsoft is pleased to publish vital systems security resources such as Audit & Intrusion Detection Tools, Security Guides and valuable guidance on systems security practices in the form of “Security CD”.

The Microsoft technology platform incorporated in the Handbook & Security CD are Windows Servers (2000 & 2003 versions), Desktop OS (Windows XP & Windows Vista) and MS SQL Database. The Handbook & Security CD are being made available to Banks, financial institutions, Systems Security Auditors and Consultants freely.

Today there is an increasing need for focused attention on the issues of the corporate governance of the information systems in computerized environment and the security controls to safeguard information and information systems, especially for the banking and finance sector. As per Reserve Bank India’s Systems Security Audit Guidelines, it is necessary to carry out Information Systems Security Audits on a yearly basis as part of Risk Compliance procedures. Microsoft has customized the banking security audit guidelines released by RBI to specific technology platforms.
