MS Office '03 now in K'taka lingo

BANGALORE: Microsoft Corporation India Pvt Ltd has announced the availability of a Kannada language interface for Microsoft Office 2003. The Kannada Language Interface Pack (LIP) can be downloaded at no additional cost from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/.





According to the press release, the launch of the Kannada LIP is an integral deliverable under Microsoft's Project Bhasha wherein, Microsoft is committed to provide Indian language interfaces for Windows and Office in 14 Indian languages. Microsoft has already released fully localized Office in Hindi and Hindi LIP for Windows XP in February 2004.



The Kannada Language Interface supplements the complete Kannada language functionality that Office 2003 provides. Users will now have a complete multilingual, multi-interface productivity suite in their mother tongue.



Office 2003, with Kannada Interface provides complete productivity functionalities like sorting and charts in Excel, E-mails in Outlook, advanced word processing: Kannada Date & Time, Find/Replace; Auto-Correct and full animation functionalities through Power Point, and most other functionalities to realize full potential of the Microsoft Office productivity suite.



Commenting on the initiative, Chief Minister of Karnataka, Dharam Singh said, "I am happy that Microsoft has delivered on its commitment for providing Kannada language solutions for its software offerings. I believe this is an important step towards building a strong local IT industry in the state and ensuring that we can reach out to the vast majority of the Kannada speaking population at the grassroots that is currently on the edge of the digital divide. We are confident that this will also be an important step towards delivering effective localized e-governance solutions in the local language of our people."
