NEW DELHI: Microsoft Corporation India Pvt Ltd has announced a tool to help organizations automatically remove the Sasser worm (W32.Sasser.A and its variants) from infected PCs. The tool is available free of cost, and can be downloaded immediately from www.microsoft.com/india/security. Microsoft also informed customers that they could protect against these attacks by first ensuring that their firewall is in place, and then installing Microsoft Security Update MS04-011 immediately.

The MS04-011 security bulletin was issued by Microsoft on April 13, and is available as a free download at www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms04-011.mspx. Alternately, users can use the Windows Update service to access the latest security update. Customers who require assistance can call the Microsoft India's free virus-support helpline at 1-901-33-33-34.

Microsoft is working closely with the anti-virus community and other industry partners to help protect its customers. Customers using a firewall -- including the firewall in Windows XP, as well as third-party hardware or software firewalls -- are generally protected against the Sasser threat.

Commenting Microsoft India enterprise marketing manager, Jasminder Gulati, "We are working closely with our partner community to ensure that customers are aware of the tools available to them, and have the required help and support to implement these measures to protect themselves."
