NEW DELHI: Microsoft has announced the availability of a Workgroup Edition of SQL Server 2000 by March.

The new version will be a stripped down version of SQL Server 2000 restricted for use on two CPUs and will not include features like reporting services, business intelligence etc. It will primarily fill up the gap between the free, embeddable Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE) and SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition.

Industry analysts are of the opinion that this new SQL Server 2000 offering is to minimize the growing impatience amongst partners on the constant delay in the release of SQL Server 2005, code-named Yukon.
