MS extends community promise to C#, CLI

BANGALORE, INDIA: Microsoft on Monday announced that it would be applying its Community Promise to its C# programming language and Common Language Infrastructure (CLI), that come under the ECMA 334 and ECMA 335 specs respectively.

Scott Guthrie, corporate vice president for the .NET Developer Platform was quoted in a blog post at Port 25 website, "The Community Promise is an excellent vehicle and, in this situation, ensures the best balance of interoperability and flexibility for developers."

There is no need of license agreement for using the technology specifications coming under the Community Promise and users can freely implement the technology, code, and solution.

At the its official website, the software giant mentions, “Microsoft provides assurance that it will not assert its Necessary Claims against anyone who makes, uses, sells, offers for sale, imports, or distributes any Covered Implementation under any type of development or distribution model, including open-source licensing models such as the LGPL or GPL.”
