MS brings VB .NET world tour to India

NEW DELHI: Microsoft India Corporation Pvt. Ltd. today announced that it has commenced a five-city Visual Basic .NET tour in India as a part of its Visual Basic .NET World Tour. The Visual Basic .NET World Tour is aimed at familiarizing developers and students with the advanced concepts for building applications that take full advantage of their existing Visual Basic .NET skills.

At the tour, Microsoft is previewing its upcoming Visual Basic .NET 2005 which is the next version of Visual Basic .NET. In addition, Microsoft is introducing Visual Basic .NET 2003 Power Pack - a set of controls released by Microsoft earlier this year, that provide enhanced user interface elements and enable developers to create more interesting client based applications.

The tour recently commenced in Bangalore and is going on to Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and New Delhi. The Visual Basic .NET World Tour is visiting more than 30 cities worldwide in United States, Europe and Asia.

Commenting on the Visual Basic .NET Tour in India, Ms. Sheila Gulati, Director, Developer and Platform Evangelism, Microsoft India said, "Visual Basic .NET 2003 is one of the world's most versatile development tools and is also among the most widely used. Over a million developers around the world use Visual Basic to create applications that run on Microsoft's .NET Framework." She further added, "The Visual Basic .NET Tour is aimed at helping the developer community in India stay on the cutting edge of technology at all points of time. We have already seen a lot of interest in this tour with over 500 developers attending the event in Bangalore."

The Indian tour is being addressed by two senior people from Microsoft's Visual Basic development team - Mr. Steven Lees, Group Program Manager, Visual Basic and Mr. Alan Griver, Group Manager, Visual Studio Data Group. During the Visual Basic .NET 2005 preview, the Microsoft team will be demonstrating a number of the advances that make it easier and more productive than ever for developers to build Windows, Web and Mobile applications. Visual Basic .NET 2005 is a part of Visual Studio 2005, which will ship a Beta release in the early part of 2005 and is scheduled to release later during the year.

Commenting on the Visual Basic .NET Tour, Mr. Alan Griver, Group Manager, Visual Studio Data Team, Microsoft Corporation said, "India has a very large developer base and a number of them develop on Visual Basic .NET. I am looking forward to interacting with them and learning about how they are using Microsoft's tools." He further added, "During the Indian tour, we are introducing developers to Visual Basic .NET 2003 Power Pack which is aimed at helping developers create powerful user interfaces for client development. We aim to further enhance our developer offerings based on the feedback from this World Tour."

Commenting on Visual Basic .NET 2005, Mr. Steven Lees, Group Program Manager, Microsoft Corporation said, "We are very excited about previewing the next version of Visual Basic .NET in India. Visual Basic .NET 2005 continues to build on the success of Visual Basic .NET 2003, with the goal of providing the best environment and language for creating applications quickly.

With the new language features, IDE features, and productivity tools, Visual Basic .NET 2005 allows developers to work more productively, using all the features provided by the .NET Framework."
