Mphasis Q3 gains big bucks from BPO

BANGALORE: MphasiS BFL, a mid-sized software services firm, said today that its quarterly net profit rose a better-than-expected 57 percent, boosted by strong gains from its fast-growing call centre services.



MphasiS, which kicked off the booming software sector's earnings season, reported a profit of Rs28 crore on a revenue of Rs149 crore. That compared with a profit of Rs18.18 crore on a revenue of Rs116 crore a year earlier.



A Reuters poll of 15 brokerages had forecast the company to report a net profit of Rs26.7 crore, up 4.7 percent from the previous quarter and up nearly 47 percent on the year.



The poll estimated revenue at Rs153 crore, a rise of 7.3 percent from the preceding quarter and 32 percent on the year.



Shares of MphasiS, which has U.S. financial titan Citigroup Inc and discount brokerage Charles Schwab Corp among its main clients, have surged 47 percent in the past three months, outperforming a 37 percent rally in Bombay's Infotech index.
