Motorola signs MoU with IIIT Bangalore

BANGALORE: Motorola Inc. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B), for collaborative research to develop technology innovations and solutions, conducting research programs and jointly work on projects in designated fields of science and technology.

This partnership will also enable Motorola to effectively utilize the results of the research efforts aimed at developing innovative wireless broadband solutions for emerging markets like India.

The focus of the collaboration will be on innovative solutions related to resource and capacity management, appropriate scheduling policies, and quality of service.

Currently, high-end research is being undertaken for providing innovative solutions to improve quality of service over WiMAX, Motorola said in a statement.

Dr Chandra Kintala, director Motorola India Research Labs, said, “Through this collaborative effort we intend to advance our research and development and achieve breakthrough technological innovation”.

“The alliance with IIIT-B builds on our overall collaboration and partnership with Indian research and academic institutions,” he added.

Firdose Vandrevala, chairman, Motorola India and Corporate vice president, Motorola Inc., said, “The relatively low cost of deployment and high speed data access makes WiMAX one of the leading solutions for wireless broadband services especially in the rural areas. This agreement reinforces Motorola’s commitment to India’s telecom revolution.”

Prof. S Sadagopan, director, IIIT-B, said, “We believe our association with Motorola will give our students exposure to real life technical projects and provide them with the right platform to harness their knowledge and skills.”
