Motorola Mobility to shut Chennai operations

Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc.which is on a global revamp has announced shutting down its operations in Chennai.

The company has already announced it plan to prune its its nearly 20,000 workforce by 20 percent worldwide.

The exact number of employees who are set to loose jobs in India is yet to be confirmed.

As per new media reports, quoting company sources, Motorola Mobility employees working for projects relevant to products being sold in the US market would be retained.

The US based company which has about 30 sales offices and R&D units worldwide has also indicated at a 'generous' severance packages and outplacement services to employees that will be

impacted.
