Motorola evinces interest in WiMax Technology: Maran

CHENNAI: Telecom-major Motorola has evinced keen interest in WiMax Technology in India. Disclosing this to Cyber Media News after Motorola’s CEO, Edward J Zander, called on him at his residence in Chennai, Union IT and Communications Minister, Dayanidhi Maran, said telecom major had evinced interest in WiMax Technology in India.

However, Maran didn’t gave more information on Motorola’s WiMax plans.

“The team updated him on the progress of the Sriperumbudur facility, and told me they would be starting production of mobile phone on-time next year,” he said.

Maran said that the Motorola team had showed him a mobile phone specifically ‘made for the Indian market.

Padmashree Warier, CTO of Motorola, Simon Lieng Chief of APAC region, Firdose Vandrawala, Vice President, Indian operations, Mary Lamb, Director (Communications); Bharat Bhatia, Director, APAC (Government Relations), Frank Vallantini, Director (LPS), were among others who were present during the meeting.
