WASHINGTON, USA: Here's an bizarre example of how seriously the copyrights and piracy issue is stepping out to be. A 32-year-old single mother from Minneapolis in the US has been ordered by the court to pay $1.92 million dollars for illegal downloading.
According to the media reports, Jammie Thomas-Rasset, the convict was previously accused by the Recording Industry Association of America claimed for sharing more than 1,700 songs via a peer to peer file sharing program. The court narrowed the number of songs in question to 24, and has asked her to pay $80,000 for each.
Thomas Rasset reacted to this verdict with raised brows and said that she is a mother of four with limited means and there is no way they are going to get that, added the reports.
This is the second trial of the case, after a judge ordered a retrial in 2007. In the first trial, she was fined only 220,000 dollars.
