More couples divorcing online as consumers favour more convenient way to separate

UK: Online divorce companies say the online process takes the strain out of an already tense situation and reflects society's increased use of the internet to do business.

Figures from Divorce Online, one of the UK's largest online divorce firms, show the number of divorces filed online with the company have increased by a massive 30 percent year on year compared to 2013.

The 30 percent increase in applications was higher than that of the actual divorce rate, which climbed just 0.50 percent during the same period from 117,550 applications in 2010-11 to 118,140 2012-2013 according to figures obtained from the Office For National Statistics.

The average Divorce Online client is aged 35-44 and 53 percent of purchasers are men.The most popular cities for online divorce filers are London at 23.23 percent, Birmingham at 3.37 percent and Leicester at 2.43 percent. The average length of marriage is 8.5 years.
