NEW DELHI: Modi Telstra, a cellular service provider in Calcutta, has tied up with HDFC Bank, so that its customers can pay their bills online at the bank's website. A customer must have an account with HDFC. A customer can log in to the HDFC website, enter all details of his bill and settle it directly from the account in HDFC. Alternatively, a customer can pay his bills through HDFC's ATMs or call the bank directly, furnish his account number and bill details and settle the bill.

According to R Mahesh, GM (Marketing), Modi Telstra, the company will soon be adding two more banks for the service. He also stated that with the launch of the company's messaging service next week, customers would be able to bank through their cellphones.

In a separate press conference, it was announced that Modi Telstra will now be known as Spice. This move comes after ModiCorp & Associates bought out the entire 49 per cent Telstra stake in the erstwhile Modi Telstra joint venture. With the Calcutta operations coming into the Spice fold, Spice now has a customer base of three-lakh nation-wide and expects to increase it to over seven lakh within the next three years.
