Mobiles to be made in India

HELSINKI: Elcoteq plans to open a manufacturing plant in India in six to nine months and employ some 1,000 staff there, Europe's leading contract manufacturer said in a statement.

The company said it would become the first mobile phone electronics manufacturing services company to enter the populous Indian market.

Elcoteq, which makes handsets for top mobile phone firm Nokia and others, did not give financial details for the planned factory.
