Mobile to mobile STD rate slashed to Rs 2.99/min

NEW DELHI: Cellular operators have announced a reduction in mobile to mobile STD rate to Rs. 2.99 per minute. The cut comes in the wake of Reliance's launch of limited mobility services, which would be operational from March-03.

Meanwhile, the charges for distance upto 50 kms would remain unchanged at Rs 1.20 per minute. The cellular operators have tied up with Bharti Telesonic, the National Long Distance provider, to offer the new rates. The new tariff package was announced by the minister of Telecommunication and IT Pramod Mahajan on behalf of cellular operators.

The cut comes into effect from midnight today. Earlier, long-distance calls on mobile to mobile were charged at Rs 9 per minute.
