But which do they prefer? Mobile apps — at least in terms of time spent.

According to a blog post from Don Kellogg, director, Telecom Research & Insights, Nielsen says, the average Android consumer in the U.S. spends 56 minutes per day actively interacting with the web and applications on their phone.

The report further added that in that 56 minutes, about two-thirds of the time is spent on mobile applications while one-third is spent on the mobile web.

The results were tracked and analysed from on-device meters installed on thousands of iOS and Android smartphones.

Perhaps more surprising, despite the hundreds of thousands of apps available for Android, a very small proportion of apps make up the vast majority of time spent, added Kellogg.

Kellogg further added that, the top 10 Android applications account for 43 per cent of all the time spent by Android consumers on mobile apps.

With 2.5 lakh Android apps available at the Android market, the remaining 249,950+ apps have to compete for the remaining 39 per cent of the pie, added Kellogg.
