LONDON: Angry over the removal of some Islamic pages, over 2.5 million Muslim users of Facebook are threatening to quit the social network, said a media report.

Facebook had recently removed four extremely popular Islamic pages and this move irked the Muslim users of the site.

Expressing anger over the move the Muslim community has expressed anger and a template letter that has been pasted into numerous Facebook pages accused the website's founder Mark Zuckerberg of "ignoring the feelings of more than 2.5 million Muslims", reported the Daily Mail.

"Although you have attended the world's best communication skills courses you have been most successful in growing great hatred and hostility between you and Muslims around the world, but seriously this time you have caused an almost unrepairable damage," said the letter.

The protesters have also asked the company to introduce new rules that make posting anti-Islamic comments a violation of Facebook terms of use.

The letter also condemned the 'Everybody draw Muhammad Day' pages that urged users to draw caricatures of the Prophet and led to the site being temporarily banned in Pakistan.

A spokeswoman for Facebook said that the Islamic pages, which included "I love Mohammed" and "Quran Lovers", were taken down because they were being used to 'spam' users, which is against the company's policy.
