BANGALORE: Mistral Software has expanded its family of Internet

Protocol (IP) stacks, by launching MistMIPv4, a Mobile IP stack offering the

best solution for high performance networking requirements. The Mobile IP

protocol is a compact and robust implementation of Mobile IP targeting mobile

node.

MistMIPv4 is a Mobile IP protocol designed to address the problem of keeping network connectivity alive even when the end node roams or switches to another network. Before the mobile IP era i.e. in the conventional network scenario, the end node must be shut down and re-initialized for the new connection. The Mobile IP protocol is a compact and robust implementation of Mobile IP targeting mobile node (i.e. the moving end node) to address the PDA as well as the general mobility requirements of the end nodes including authentication.

"The addition of MistMIPv4 signifies the competence of Mistral in Product / IP development. It is a strategic fit solution for IPv4 operations and provides basic mobility support for all IPv4 networks", said Anees Ahmed, President and CEO of Mistral Software. "The design of the MistMIPv4 assures physical layer independent operation, which means that any communication media, including wired and wireless networks, will support Mobile IP.

The MistMIPv4 stack is targeted at the hand-held devices market. The very small memory footprint of less than 50K that we have achieved for this stack makes it a perfect fit for these devices, where memory is always at a premium," added Ahmed.

Current implementation of MistMIPv4 supports x86 and PowerPC architectures and is available on VxWorks and Embedded Linux operating systems.
