DESERT SPRINGS, USA: Mincom, a leading global provider of software solutions and services for asset intensive industries, has launched a unique mobility inspection solution, Mincom Mobile Inspections Manager, that can help save asset intensive businesses up to two thirds of their maintenance costs by introducing preventative maintenance regimes and proactively managing assets in the field, in real time.
With thirty years experience in servicing asset intensive industries and hundreds of collective years of expertise and IP in asset management, Mincom has combined its understanding of field maintenance with a new approach to mobility to create a powerful application that transforms paper-based inspections into a scripted, electronic process on a multifunction device.
Asset intensive industries, such as mining, energy, transport, government, public infrastructure and defense, are highly reliant on field workers to maintain critical assets. Real-time onsite inspections are crucial to ensure continuous uptime and avoid asset failure that can cost millions of dollars in downtime and damages and catastrophically harm workers, local communities or the environment.
“Having the ability to inspect a physical asset on site using an intelligent application on a mobile device enables field workers to quickly, efficiently and accurately inspect assets,” said Jennifer Tejada, Chief Strategy Officer.
“Through proactive asset inspection, companies can identify any risks up front, enable any real-time corrective action to be executed and ultimately avoid catastrophic failure or downtime that can cause dramatic negative business impact.”
“Making this shift is one of the biggest hurdles faced by many organizations, as they tend to focus on addressing the symptoms rather than looking at ways to avoid major asset failures,” said Tejada.
Mobility on the rise
New research has revealed that even when budgets are being cut or restricted, top performing companies are maintaining or increasing their level of mobility.
According to a February 2009 report on mobility and budgets by the Aberdeen Group, between 2006 and 2009, the percentage of respondents who had a mobility initiative in place grew from 59 percent to 84 percent. For companies categorized as ‘Best in Class’ – ie those in the top 20 percent across multiple metrics – it was found that over the last 24 month period, these companies increased the number of employees covered by mobility by 44 percent . At the same time, employee productivity in these companies was improved by 36 percent.
Mincom Mobile Inspections Manager
Mincom Mobile Inspections Manager standardizes and automates the inspection and data capture process, eliminating double-handling and paperwork, improving asset data collection and accuracy, and maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the inspection process.
The solution further transforms asset inspection by allowing customers to take advantage of a wide range of technology such as RFID, GIS, GPS and camera together with specialized asset management applications.
It also enables asset audits, providing greater audit transparency by improving the review of information from the field and enabling the enterprise to update and maintain an accurate asset register.
“If you take a mine for example, of the 1,000 workers there, 600 may be responsible for maintenance. Having access to real-time data in the field with an employee base of this scale helps reduce downtime, increase productivity and improve safety while lowering overall capital expenses and operating costs,” said Ms. Tejada.
Mincom Mobile Inspections Manager can be implemented out-of-the-box or can be configured to support an organization’s existing or re-engineered business practices.
Mincom Mobile Inspections Manager integrates with Ellipse, Mincom’s Enterprise Asset Management platform, with upcoming releases integrating to other leading ERP platforms.
