It was made clear in the third platform preview for Internet Explorer 9 released on Wednesday, according to technology website Cnet.

Quoting Ryan Gavin, senior director for Internet Explorer, the report said that Internet Explorer 9 will support the Canvas graphics technology and the video and audio tags specified as part of the still-developing HTML5 standard.

At a media event in San Francisco, the company demonstrated the performance of the third platform preview as compared to other browsers, taking specific jabs at Firefox and Chrome as it made its demonstration.

In the first platform preview release at its annual MIX10 developers conference, Dean Hachamovitch, general manager of Microsoft's IE group had said, "We saw how HTML5 enabled a whole new class of applications. We quickly realized to do it right, which is our intent, our focus was more around designing what HTML5 apps will need so they will feel more like real apps than Web pages."
