Windows 10 Maps app has been updated by Microsoft with better search and driving interface. Users of the updated version will now be able to view multiple search results on the same map, follow redesigned turn-by-turn instructions while driving, and see favorite spots offline, among other smaller changes. However, Here maps app, a strong part of Microsoft's Windows phone offering for years will no longer run for phone users from March 29th.

With the latest build, along with wayfinding and usability, many of the menu locations have also been enhanced. Navigation has been positioned at the top of the desktop and at the bottom of the phone because people use maps app differently on different types of devices.

For the phone, this directly improves the experience when using the device with one hand, especially getting directions or opening your favorites with a single tap. Moving navigation to the bottom of the phone is just one of the ways Insider feedback has helped to improve the experience for all Windows 10 Map app users.

Users can also view multiple searches and directions at the same time layered on top of each other or use tabs to switch between views. With added labels for search results directly on the map instead of referencing numbers on the search list, one can now see the name of each place directly on the map. Algorithms have also been improved to provide closer and better search results.

When ‘Cortana’ is enabled, one will receive turn-by-turn directions in Cortana’s voice, currently supported for English (United States), English (United Kingdom), Simplified Chinese (China), French (France), Italian (Italy), German (Germany) and Spanish (Spain).

Favorites will be available offline through which one can enjoy offline maps and take advantage of all the places that have been saved. Users can also add notes to favorites to keep track of things.

Disappearing Apps from Microsoft

Here maps are the latest to join the bandwagon of disappearing apps from Microsoft’s Windows Phone store that includes American Airlines, Chase Bank, Bank of America, NBC, Pinterest, and Kabam.

Microsoft only purchased Nokia's handset division but failed to secure rights to Here maps. Nokia later sold its Here maps unit to Audi, BMW, and Mercedes for $3 billion.
