WASHINGTON, USA: Microsoft is shutting down its Bing search engine cashback promotion by July 30, because it "had not seen the broad adoption it had hoped".

Microsoft, which launched its Bing search engine sometimes back, had started the cashback program hoping to lure more people to the search engine. Now, after shutting down this programme, Microsoft said it would be pursuing new incentive programs for advertisers, said media reports.

Despite its efforts, Bing is still in the third position in the search market, far behind Google and Yahoo.

In a blog post Microsoft said that the cashback program didn't attract as many people as the software maker had hoped.
