Microsoft fosters entrepreneurial ecosystem

MUMBAI, INDIA: In a bid to support and encourage startups' and entrepreneurs' field of innovation and technology in India, Microsoft Corporation today announced a US$ 100,000 grant by launching BizSpark India StartUp Challenge in Mumbai.

According to Kevin Turner, Microsoft's chief operating officer, the contest is uniquely designed for start-ups in the field of software products.

“The contest allows the start-ups to showcase their creativity and gain constructive feedback, technology inputs, guidance from mentors, financial assistance from investors as well as support from Microsoft,” Turner said.

“We encourage investors locally and globally in investing in this region (India) and also those investors which betting on Microsoft. I ask them to invest in software, education and provide financial support in fostering the talent and entrepreneurs in this region,” he stressed.

Further Turner informed that India has about 1300 startups in the technology space of which 70 startups are using Windows Azure platform.

The startup challenge is aligned with the company’s commitment to promote innovation and entrepreneurship and foster the growth of local software ecosystem. The contest is open to startups working in areas of software product/IP and using Microsoft technologies and products.

At the end of the contest, four start-ups will be offered grant of US$ 100,000, while the two winners will get USS 40,000 each and for the runners up in the category of cloud computing, mobile application and software products will get US$ 10,000 each.
