Google may partner Micromax to launch first Android Go smartphone in India

Micromax is gearing up to launch the first Android Go smartphone in India priced around Rs 2,000 that will run on Android Oreo(Go edition). According to FactorDaily, Google has teamed up with domestic handset makers such as Micromax, Lava, Intex, and Karbonn to manufacture low-cost Android Go smartphone.

The report further states that the company is planning to launch the phone on Republic Day or around it. More details or specifications about the device are not available yet. The report quoted a Google official saying, "As more users come online for the first time, the number of entry-level Android devices available has been rising quickly, and is expected to make up a much larger percentage of all smartphone sales going forward. Given the acceleration, we thought it is time to take our investment to the next level."

The report states that other phone manufacturers from India are also planning to launch the Android Oreo(Go edition) devices in 2018.

Android Oreo(Go edition) launched by Google in the GoogleforIndia event has been customised for entry-level smartphones that usually have low processing power and storage. Android Oreo (Go edition) is based on Android 8.1 Oreo version and is compatible with 512MB-1GB RAM phones.
