In an effort to increase efficiencies, save money, and improve accountability, Genesee County says it selected the Kronos time and attendance, absence management, workforce analytics, and mobile applications, which will be used in conjunction with the Kronos TeleStaff public safety scheduling solution in the county's public safety departments.

It shares further that for added innovation in how Genesee County collects time-worked data from employees, it also purchased Kronos InTouch time clocks to provide employees more control over their time, enabling them to easily check accrual balances, request time off, and view schedules - all in real time.

Faced with shrinking budgets, Genesee County claims it is pioneering efforts with other Michigan local governments to partner with Oakland County in its G2G (government-to-government) shared services initiative. This endeavor will recreate the technology infrastructure for the agencies involved to more effectively support inter-governmental processes and subsequently lead to cost savings. Kronos is expected to play a large role in this endeavor, following the implementation success at Genesee County.

In addition to cost savings and increased efficiency, Kronos will also help Genesee County to easily comply with federal and state mandated labor laws and regulations such as FLSA; centrally manage the federal grant tracking process; and provide access to a superior public safety emergency response system to better serve its citizens.

Jamie Curtis, chairman, Genesee County Board of Commissioners adds, ""The case for shared services is clear. Shared services provide economies of scale, cost sharing for expensive technology, and greater opportunities for worker specialization and innovation. The ultimate goal is to increase the quality of public services in the most cost-effective way."

Maxine Daniels, IT director, Genesee County said, "We believe that by improving government services through shared technology services at little or no cost, we can reduce the cost of government. Kronos is helping Genesee County lead this initiative by standardizing critical processes for us and enabling us to focus on our own efficiency objectives as well as those set forth by the G2G endeavor."
