NEW DELHI: At the recently held Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) in Seattle, Microsoft Chairman and Chief Software Architect Bill Gates' showcased its new document format, code-named 'Metro', said an online report.
The XML based format will be a key component of Longhorn, the next major version of Windows and will enable easy sharing and printing of documents. The format will be freely- licensed and users will be able to open Metro files without a special client.
The new document format is being seen as a 'potential Adobe killer,' say analysts, and should be taken as a forewarning by Adobe.
According to Microsoft, 'printers and printer drivers can include support for Metro and deliver better and faster printing results than with today's printing technology.'
