WILSONVILLE, USA: Mentor Graphics Corporation, a provider of electronic hardware and software solutions, announced on Wednesday the launch NX- based tool FloEFD for Siemens NX product for concurrent computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation, integrated with the Siemens NX product lifecycle management (PLM) software.

The company claims that FloEFD for Siemens NX software works directly with native NX geometry using Finite Volume mathematical techniques for more robust and faster simulations, while supporting a wider range of applications.

The FloEFD for Siemens NX product uses a unique hexahedral immersed boundary meshing approach for more accurate and computationally efficient simulations compared to tetrahedral and prismatic elements found in other tools, the company said in a statement.

The FloEFD software can support a full range of physical simulation capabilities: highly turbulent flow fields, compressible flows, combustion and cavity modelling.

Concurrent CFD for productivity and reliability

Mentor Graphics Concurrent CFD methodology can reduce simulation time by as much as 65 to 75 per cent compared to traditional CFD tools.

It enables users to optimize product performance and reliability while reducing physical prototyping and development costs without time or material penalties.

By using the same geometries and a common user interface (UI), graphics window, and workflow for CAD and analysis, designers using Siemens NX and FloEFD software can maintain a single set of data across the entire project design process.

The FloEFD product is an established technology supported by a dedicated CFD development team. Mentor Graphics is the world’s third largest general purpose CFD provider with the largest knowledge base in electronics cooling–a key resource for Siemens NX customers, the release added.

“We are pleased to announce another concurrent CFD solution with FloEFD for Siemens NX users,” said Erich Buergel, general manager of Mentor Graphics Mechanical Analysis Division.

He added that with this edition they would further enhance their current offerings of easy-to-use, yet powerful, CFD to meet the requirements of a larger community who would like to take advantage of Concurrent CFD.
