ALBUQUERQUE, USA: Medusa Space, a microgravity research and development company from Albuquerque, NM, has acquired a broad range of Intellectual Property from Microgravity Enterprises, Inc. (MEI). Beginning in 2007, MEI commercially sold its consumer products produced on Earth but made from ingredients which had been flown in space.

These included the world’s first space beer, Comet’s Tail Amber Ale (space-flown yeast), Antimatter Energy Drink (space-flown B-vitamins) and Space2O enriched water (space-flown electrolytes). However, they also created a unique database of US and international space experiments with emphasis on those specific experiments which identified the promise of potential high-value products. Along with the experiment database, MEI developed a business utility assessment tool which matches potential new products to the cost of development, execution, and return on investment (ROI).“As one of the founders of MEI, I am acutely aware of the depth of knowledge and tremendous potential that was generated by that organization,” said Medusa Space President Rich Glover. “Now, we have the opportunity to seamlessly integrate that potential into our current operations.” The MEI business assessment utility tool will be modified to incorporate new Medusa Space ROI requirements and specifically adjusted for our pharmaceutical targets.

Medusa Space CTO, Dr. Bill Seng, stated that the depth and breadth of MEI’s experiment database makes it unique in the world. “If you want to determine whether microgravity adds any value to products in your market space then this is the place to start,” he said. “Nobody has the detailed understanding of commercial microgravity production and its business utility to produce singularly valuable materials and chemistry that we now have.”

Dan Hodges, CEO and President of Medusa Security Corporation, the parent company of Medusa Space, said, “This IP broadens our grasp on the microgravity market to include everything from consumer beverages to high-value special materials and unique proteins. We are looking forward to teaming with an even larger variety of industry partners now to bring the benefits of microgravity production to the marketplace.”
