MediaTek keen to expand India business

Taiwan based chip-design company, MediaTek is keen to expand its presence in India.

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Taiwan based chip-design company, MediaTek is keen to expand its presence in India. In his recent visit to India, M. K. Tsai, the global chairman of the company met the  IT and Communications minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and expressed his interest in investing in India.

The MediaTek global chairman was encouraged by the market potential that India holds in the field of technology and high tech services and shared his commitment to make technology more accessible for people.

Initiatives like 'Make in India' and Smart Cities as well as liberalization of defence manufacturing has created a great demand for technology solutions and hardware in India of late. This along with the young population, economical workforce and business friendly government has made India a great investment destination also.

Prasad shared the 'Digital India' vision with him and how it has opened up new avenues and opportunities in the field of technology.

The Taiwanese chip-designing company managed to grow rapidly in the emerging smartphone markets by focusing on the low-end or the budget segment mainly. But MediaTek is now looking to spread out into higher-end device markets as well.

The company has already set up a new R&D facility in Bangalore last year and earmarked an investment of over $200 million into the country over the next few years.
