BANGALORE: McAfee has launched its latest version of anti-virus distribution

and management tool, ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 2.5, which manages Symantec

desktop and server anti-virus. The product claims to be the only anti-virus

policy management tool scalable to 250,000 desktops from a single server,

including cross-vendor anti-virus management, detailed cross-vendor graphical

reporting and rapid software deployment.

The cross-vendor management technology of ePO 2.5 enables corporate IT

administrators to monitor and manage both McAfee anti-virus, and the Symantec

desktop and server anti-virus products. The ePO 2.5 solution improves

enforcement of an enterprise anti-virus policy with the ability to detect the

presence of Symantec anti-virus on the network while ensuring the Symantec

product is updated.

While ePolicy Orchestrator benefits companies that allow their users to choose

whether they want to use McAfee or Symantec anti-virus at the desktop, ePO is

also ideal for two companies going through a merger where one company has

standardized on McAfee and the other on Symantec.

"In large enterprises that have not consolidated on a single AV

supplier, effective virus prevention policy has been a tough road to

hoe," said Eric Hemmendinger, research director for security and

privacy at Aberdeen Group. "With ePO's support for Symantec desktop and

server solutions, McAfee enables IS administrators to seamlessly manage

policy for both McAfee and Symantec AV installations."

McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator is the only anti-virus solution designed to offer

easy and efficient software deployment scaleable to 250,000 users. With the

ability to enable system alerts on email, pagers, or other devices based upon

priority and severity, McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator enables an IT administrator

to distribute the latest virus definition updates to an entire 250,000 desktops

in virus outbreak situations. ePO allows companies to focus on higher-priority

issues and leave the anti-virus integration until later.
