MUMBAI, September 2: Hutchison Max Telecom, the cellular service
provider in Mumbai, has successfully introduced the latest in coding
technology called Enhanced Full Rate (EFR). The new technology feature
provides superior speech quality that is comparable to fixed lines (PSTN),
thereby give a super sound performance.
The supersound EFR feature, voice quality enhancement, will be
noticeable to users in almost all usage situations, especially in the
higher pitch range. The introduction of supersound EFR will substantially
reduce background sounds as it has the capability to cut down on
surrounding sounds around the speaker and hence facilitate the speaker to
speak in normal tone.
Hutchison Max COO Sandip Das said, "Two of the main issues a
cellular subscriber looks for is good reliable coverage and superior
speech quality." EFR is a coding algorithm that facilitates the
conversion of analog speech into a digital data stream that can be
modulated for transmissions over narrow-band channel. The aim of speech
coding is to compress the signal as much as possible in order to achieve
maximum capacity utilization with excellent speech quality.
