CIOL Mark Zuckerberg's 2017 resolution is to meet people in real

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook is known to take personal and bold yearly challenges. In the previous years, the 32-year old tech titan took the challenge of learning to speak Mandarin or creating a virtual assistant, dubbed Jarvis to control his home.

However, in 2017, Zuckerberg wants to meet people not through Facebook pages, but in real.

“My personal challenge for 2017 is to have visited and met people in every state in the US by the end of the year,” Zuckerberg wrote in a ">Facebook post. “After a tumultuous last year, my hope for this challenge is to get out and talk to more people about how they’re living, working and thinking about the future.”

He has already visited 20 states and is aiming to visit 30 more states by the end of this year.

He further wrote, “For decades, technology and globalisation have made us more productive and connected. This has created many benefits, but for a lot of people it has also made life more challenging. This has contributed to a greater sense of division than I have felt in my lifetime. We need to find a way to change the game so it works for everyone.”

Some major Facebook projects suffered a major setback in 2016. For example, Zuckerberg's "Free Basics" platform under Internet.org suffered a huge defeat in India. Facebook was also widely criticized after US elections for spreading fake news, partisan content that favoured the President-elect Donald Trump.

But, doesn't his post sounds like that he is up for political candidate election? At least, that's what skeptics are speculating after going through his post.

But at the end of the day, Zuckerberg wants Facebook to be one-stop-store for everyone. So, if it does not end as a brazen pursuit of its ambitious advertising revenue target only, then we can expect to see more new features and initiatives from the Facebook team also.
