CNN Money's Fortune reports that there are chances that Michael Dell, who along with private equity firm Silver Lake Partners is trying to take over Dell, for $24.4 billion, might have to leave the company.

According to the same report, there are other companies, such as The Blackstone Group, Carl Icahn, Lenovo, Hewlett-Packard, on the fray with eyes on the bid.

Of these, The Blackstone Group, a private-equity firm, is seen as the strongest bidder. As per this report on Bloomberg, the equity firm has allegedly approached Mark Hurd to take up the role of Dell CEO.

Hurd infamously left Hewlett- Packard (HP) in 2010, after a sex scandal against him. However, during his tenure as chief executive officer of HP, he helped the company to regain its first slot from Dell as the largest personal computer (PC) maker.

It would be interesting to see what Oracle's Larry Ellison has to say about this. Ellison went out of his way and extended support to Hurd during the scandal and appointed the latter as his company's president back in 2010.
