Mangolia to use Gemalto's eID cards

Gemalto, a digital security company has announced that the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs of Mongolia has selected the company's Sealys secure multi-service electronic ID cards.

In order to implement e-governance services in the country, these cards will be used as the country's national identity programme.

The total population of Mongolia is approximately 3 million and these smart cards will serve as an identity which will help citizens to avail various services and benefits from the Government of Mongolia.

Apart from that, the national eID card can be used for updating the national registry. The eID card make the process and security level more efficient. Gemalto has collaborated with a leading IT company in Mongolia and the main contractor for this programme is Bodi International.

The ID card will be of the size of a credit card and it will come with a microprocessor. Through a software, the citizen's personal data, including the holder's digital photograph and fingerprints will be managed.

The company claims that, the software will ensure the citizen's privacy. Gemalto is said to be providing around 2 million cards for the project.
