NEW DELHI: Man Machine Systems has announced the launch of a new Java-based

tool for testing. The tool called JSynTest, is an automated environment for

syntax-based testing.

Syntax Testing, also called grammar-based testing, is a powerful black box,
data-driven technique for testing applications where the input data can be

described formally. The technique can be used to effectively test applications

such as command-driven software, scripting languages, database query languages,

compilers, GUI applications and applications that work on XML/HTML files.

Speaking on the occasion Man Machine Systems, CEO Dr. K Rangarajan said,
"We feel proud to offer JSynTest to the testing community as it is the

outcome of several years of research and development within MMS. This tool has

three very special features. It is written in Java, and so it can run on a

variety of platforms. Secondly, the grammar formalism in JSynTest is quite

expressive, with support for inheritance and composition across grammars. And

finally, instead of directly generating test data from the grammar, JSynTest

generates a Java program that generates the test data. This indirection has

great benefits for testers, since they can now embed the generation logic in

their test drivers."

The company is actively looking to appoint resellers for JSynTest and their
other wide range of testing tools for the Java community, in India. The

company's most popular tool, JStyle, is an automated code review system for

Java, and is in use by developers in several large companies around the world.
