Man held in BPO date drug rape case

CHENNAI, INDIA: A 27-year-old man was arrested for alleged sexual assault on his female colleague after reportedly spiking her drink with date rape drug.

The accused has been identified as Jijulal Nair, the trainer of the victim, a city-based call center employee.

According to reports, the victim accompanied the accused to his friend’s house where she was offered a drink, supposedly spiked with date rape drug. On waking up, she realised that she had been violated and reported the matter to the police.

The accused has confessed to the crime, police sources said.

"Date rape drug refers to any drug that can be used to assist in the commission of a sexual assault (date rape). Date rape drugs commonly have sedative, hypnotic, dissociative, and/or amnesiac effects, and, when used to facilitate rape, are often added to a food or drink without the victim’s knowledge," a Wikipedia entry said.

Earlier in June, a foreigner was allegedly drugged and raped in a five-star hotel.
