MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Government has invited Infosys chairman and chief mentor NR Narayana Murthy to head a panel intended to look into the creation of an IT city in the state, sources said.

Incidentally, Murthy had last month resigned as the chairman of Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) following remarks made by former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda questioning his contribution to the idea of the Greenfield airport coming up at Devanahalli, near Bangalore.

Murthy is currently in the US and is expected back home on Thursday. It is not immediately known whether he has accepted Maharashtra's offer.
