NEW DELHI: Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Information Technology and
Communications, Pramod Mahajan, will inaugurate the India-Singapore Technology
Expo - ISTEX 2001 - on October 9, 2001 in Singapore. The three-day fair would be
an important part of the "India Week" being organized there by the
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Mahajan will also inaugurate the recently relocated CII office in Singapore
during his visit. The CII office has been looking at the island nation as the
hub for India's trade and investment relations in the ASEAN region. CII's
strategic shift will also compliment the newly established office in Hong Kong,
especially in terms of an increased focus on China.
In sync with the new strategy, most of the business conferences revolve around
different segments of the services industry. Separate conferences are being held
on the tourism and hospitality industry, infrastructure sector, financial
services, information and communication technology, health-care and health
research, and on various opportunities for trade.
A CEOs’ mission led by CII president Sanjiv Goenka will be in Singapore
between October 9 and 12 with the objective of forging partnerships and looking
at new opportunities. The delegation will include CII director general Tarun
Das, CII International chairman and vice chairman, SRF, Arun Bharat Ram, Vam
Organics Chemicals Ltd. managing director Hari Bhartia, Ispat Industries vice
chairman Pramod Mittal, Zensar Technologies deputy chairman Ganesh Natarajan,
Feedback Ventures chairman Vinayak Chatterjee and Ambuja Cements Eastern Ltd.
