M2M firm Telit enters India, opens Delhi office

NEW DELHI, INDIA: UK-based machine-to-machine (M2M) communications company, Telit Communications, has entered the Indian market with the opening of its New Delhi office today.

Though China is the largest contributor to its revenue in the Asian region, the company is optimistic about its India operations.

Telit's core business is M2M applications with a focus on cellular and satellite technologies. "We are expecting close to US$ 200 million business by the end of 2011," informed Hosang Kim, sales director, Asia, at Telit Wireless Solutions.

Telit said it saw great potential in M2M wireless technologies in India. India is a strategic market and the introduction of large-scale national agendas such as Aadhaar (UID) and Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programme (R-APDRP) are fuelling the growth of M2M market in the country, said Kim.

Recently, the company acquired Motorola M2M, raising the proforma market share close to 22 per cent. It gets 78 per cent sales through distribution, while 22 per cent from direct sales in Asia, excluding Korea. ABI Research said that the total available market of M2M in Asia is expected to be around US$ 16 million by 2011.

Ashish Gulati, country manager, India, at Telit Communications, said their strategy for India is to create awareness about wireless M2M technology, customization for local requirements, and demonstrate benefits to the entire value chain. The company targets to achieve 40 per cent of the market share in India by 2014.

The M2M market player is planning to expand India operations with offices at new locations that include Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Telit also said it will penetrate into SAARC nations, including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Gulati said the potential of wireless M2M was immense. The company powers telemetry and telematics applications that are being used in power and transportation sector.

Telit is a wireless technology company that develops, manufactures and markets GSM/GPRS, UMTS/HSPA, CDMA and short-range RF communication modules that include Zigbee and full IPR for M2M applications.
