Features: Seagate Technology has announced that it is starting shipment of its Lyrion hard drive – the industry’s most intelligent and evolved 1.8-inch hard drive – to customers worldwide.
Lyrion is a single platter 60GB 1.8-inch hard drive, enabled by perpendicular recording technology, with only 5-mm of thickness. With a single platter 60GB hard drive, portable devices will be able to carry up to 80 movies, up to 200 hours of music videos, up to 20 hours of standard definition video or up to 12 hours of high-definition video. Lyrion will also be available in a 30GB configuration, a Seagate statement said.
Lyrion is the ideal hard drive for consumer segments relying more on electronic devices, with the combination of portability, reliability and capacity. In addition, the Lyrion hard drive has advanced capabilities to self-adjust its operation based on its environment, making it the ideal solution for handheld devices.
“The portable video market is booming and is currently the main driver for consumer handheld devices, similar to the digital audio market a few years ago,” said Brian Dexheimer, Seagate chief sales and marketing officer. “Lyrion hard drive combines the best features for portable devices.”
Seagate Lyrion hard drives have an advanced combination of technologies and capabilities making it uniquely suited for operation in the handheld and portable device market. A few of these capabilities and technologies include:
Free Fall Protection – The Lyrion drive is compatible with free fall sensors on portable and handheld devices.
Best-in-class power management– Lyrion leads the 1.8-inch hard drive category in power efficiency, resulting in longer device battery life.
Run-On Technology– The drive intelligently senses and calculates motion and vibration, automatically adjusting its performance to deliver skip-free music and video;
Best Extreme Temperature Conditions– The Lyrion drive is able to intelligently adapt to environmental extremes, capable of operation from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius, the broadest temperature range in its class.
The Seagate Lyrion hard drive will offer compatibility with both IDE and new CE-ATA interface for handheld consumer devices.
