Lucent to recruit 500 engineers

BANGALORE: Lucent Technologies has inaugurated its Inter-Networking Systems India Development Center (IIDC) in Bangalore. It is now planning to recruit nearly 500 engineers over the period of next two years for this center. For the first year of operations, this year, it plans to recruit about 125 engineers.



An investment of $10 million has already been earmarked for its first phase of operation, by the end of this year. The development center in Bangalore will be engaged in developing X-generation integrated network management and configuration systems for Inter-Networking Systems MultiServices Core network business.



Products developed at the IIDC will later be distributed to Lucent's global customers of the service providers. The 62,000 sq ft, IIDC is equipped with a state of the art switching lab with the latest Lucent core, Access and aggregation switches.



It is expected to be the largest development center in the world of the company's when its fully operational, confirmed Ravi Gulati, president, Network Operation Software, Lucent Technologies, Inc.



Currently the company has a total strength of about 800 employees across the country engaged in building modern telecommunications networks for service providers in India. The country is also a major hub for research and development activities for the company. It is engaged in developing solutions for broadband and mobile Internet.
