* Mobile SIM penetration crossed 200 percent in 2013 further establishing Hong Kong as one of the most penetrated mobile markets in the world. The market though is nearing saturation with growth slowing down significantly in 2013. Ownership of multiple devices, such as tablets and USB modems, is still generating some growth in this near-saturated market.

* LTE came to the forefront finally in 2013, with substantial growth in the year taking its percentage (of total mobile SIMs) to over 15 percent, up from 3 percent at the end of 2012. The number of smartphones has also been growing, finally becoming the dominant handset in the market, as the number of feature and voice phones continue to decline.

* Fibre broadband continued its impressive take-up in 2013 and now accounts for 65 percent of all fixed broadband connections. This has mostly come in the form of replacement connections for DSL, as well as new connections. With less than only 0.3 million DSL connections left, we expect fibre broadband growth to slow down in the future.
