Features: RAD Data Communications has announced the launch of its new LRS-52
SHDSL modem rack, a chassis providing Symmetric High-Bitrate Digital Subscriber
Loop (SHDSL) service within the Local Loop. The new product has been
specifically engineered for Indian market by RAD.
India has been the largest market for 2Mbps (ASMi) HDSL and SHDSL leased line
modems for RAD. Nearly 33 per cent of all ASMi modems manufactured by RAD are
sold in India, and these modems are locally manufactured in India since 2004.
Jayant Deo, president, RAD Data Communications India, said, “RAD has been the
market leader with over 50 per cent market share in this product range in India.
Being sensitive to market feedback and in view of the potential, the ASMi
product was specially customized for Indian market i.e. feature add-ons were
implemented locally to suit the market requirements.”
Each port in the LRS-52 dedicated SHDSL modem rack works opposite an SHDSL
remote device in a point-to-point configuration, providing each port with an
independent connection. The product supports SHDSL technology in full compliance
with ITU and ETSI standards. The LRS-52 dedicated SHDSL modem rack is a cost
effective non-modular modem rack that can be used with a dedicated number of
ports. The user can choose between 12 and 24 ports in the 2-wire version, and
between six and 12 ports in the 4-wire version. The high density reduces the
price per port.
“LRS-52 adds value to our existing range of highly popular SHDSL solutions in
India by optimizing SHDSL modem rack costs for small-to-medium capacity central
sites located in smaller cities or larger towns. The timing of this product
introduction is excellent as the telecom services market in India is rapidly
expanding in such locations,” explained Deo.
The LRS-52 is available in separate versions for each user interface (E1, V.35
or X.21). The device has an SNMP agent on board that provides full SNMP
management of the central and the remote units. It includes a built-in Ethernet
bridge and dual Ethernet ports for the connection of a large number of racks to
single or multiple management stations.
