The technology is the core control networking technology which is used in Echelon's Networked Energy Systems (NES) smart grid solutions deployed by several utilities in Finland, Germany, Austria, Denmark, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Russia, Sweden, and the U.S., amongst the several other countries.

"An estimated 125,000 LonWorks enabled buildings exist in Europe, together saving about 20 percent yearly on energy usage, all credits to LonWorks technology," said Anders Axelsson, Echelon's senior vice-president of sales and marketing.

As per the EPA's carbon equivalency calculator, the carbon corresponding of the savings is equivalent to the greenhouse gases emitted by about six million passenger vehicles in one year.
