NEW DELHI, INDIA: As the London Olympics 2012 is round the corner, Samsung Electronics, as the official sponsor, has announced a series of initiatives for Indian athletes. The company has also created a page: Fans Speak (">www.facebook.com/samsungIN) on Facebook.
The electronics major has unveiled an array of programmes for Indian contingent at London Olympics. They include Olympic Ratna for winners in shooting, boxing and archery. The reward includes Rs.20 lakh to gold medalists, Rs.15 lakh to silver medalists and Rs.10 lakh to bronze medal winners.
Samsung also facilitates athletes to travel with a companion or a family member to London.
The Indian contenders in shooting category include: Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang, Ronjan Sodhi and Manavjit Singh Sandhu; archery: Deepika Kumari and boxing: MC Mary Kom, Vikas Krishna Yadav and Laishram Devendra Singh.
Samsung South-West Asia president and CEO BD Park said that the players would be greatly motivated through such schemes.
IOA secretary general Raja Randhir Singh said that the Indian athletes would make India proud. V K Malhotra, acting president IOA, said that Rs.50 lakh, which they received from Samsung would be distributed among winners.
