It doesn't come as a surprise as more and more tech-savvy citizens are reporting incidents online and provide supporting documents, be it photos, videos or in other formats.

An eyewitness, who happened to witness the unfortunate scene, has put up a brief footage of the crash on YouTube under the moniker niczerogoeshome, titled Helicopter crash at Wandsworth Road, Vauxhall. It runs for 13 seconds.

Apparently, two have been killed and nine injured in the accident, when the chopper collided with a crane in a foggy clime, in close proximity to River Thames and near Vauxhall train station.

Police said it appeared the helicopter had hit the crane on top of The Tower, One St George Wharf at about 08:00 GMT, reported the BBC.

"About 90 firefighters are at the scene near Wandsworth Road in South Lambeth. Doctors said one of the dead was in the helicopter and the other on the ground. A man was rescued from a burning car by firefighters," it added.

Is the trend of citizens utilizing the power of social media sites to highlight issues and mishaps a good sign of empowerment? Is it here to stay?

Have your say.
