What significance does IT have for an industry like yours?

This is the second oldest industry in the world. We are in the container shipping business and this sector is yet to mature. We however see, a lot of growth as the bulk container transportation business is poised for growth. With this high potential, the role of technology here is very high. The expectations of end customer have changed completely so we need to maximize the use of technology.

Does that mean that many applications have now become an imperative?

Yes, many areas are now a given. Be it the value of an efficient supply chain or reduction of inventory and consequent improvements in cost and delivery, technology is being very helpful.

Are there still any missing pieces in the technology available today for this industry?

No, In fact I guess the industry hasn't yet used the full potential of the technology. There are always means and ways of deploying technology more effectively. Technology is not the limit. It's the logic and thought process behind that may be a limit.
