Nye will be replaced by LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman, the paper said, adding that the reasons behind Nye's departure were unclear.

Hoffman was CEO of LinkedIn before Nye took over in February 2007, after which he remained as chairman and president of products at the Mountain View, California-based company.

The company also appointed Jeff Weiner, a former Yahoo Inc executive to oversee day-to-day operations as interim president, according to the paper.

LinkedIn could not be immediately reached for comment.

Last week, Google executive Dipchand "Deep" Nishar was appointed by LinkedIn as vice president of products effective in January.
