The new division has also launched a branded suite of services that

will help companies start offering e-commerce services on their sites on

the Internet which otherwise have been passive till now. Speaking to CIOL

Bureau, head of the new division, Aamod Wagh said that e-Buy serviecs

would help companies conduct secure e-commerce on the Net without making

any significant investments in specialised infrastructure. LGSI has set up

the necessary infrastucture for the purpose, including space, hardware,

redundancy etc.

"e-Buy services include buyer registration, capturing orders on

the Net, order processing, payment processing, process delivery

information and back-end order integration," Mr Wagh said. He pointed

out that a Web site can be commerce enabled in a matter of three hours.

"All that is required to be done at the Web site of the company is

including ‘buy’ buttons and price tags and integrating the server to

the LGSI server. The buyers can also track the position of the goods

purchased on a real time basis," he added.

Payment to LGSI will be on the basis of number of transactions

conducted on the site. "This will give the companies a comfort

feeling. Many companies have desisted from starting e-commerce services as

they are not sure of the return on such an investment. e-Buy will

encourage even small companies who have their Web sites to start offering

e-commerce services," Mr Wagh said, adding that the companies can

also use the services to test the waters. "Large companies can offer

e-commerce services on our infrastructure for a limited period of time and

test the market for such a service before investing in setting up the

infrastructure on their own," he said.

To ensure secure order processing, LGSI has tied up with Citibank (for

on-line transactions) and Hong Kong Bank (for off-line transactions), who

will carry out the credit card processing. The company has also tied up

with various courier companies for delivery of the goods.

In order to promote e-commerce on the Web sites of their clients, LGSI

will soon launch a portal. Mr Wagh said that LGSI had already invested

$2.5 million in the E-Biz Division and planned to further invest $10

million during the next two years. He said that e-Buy services will not

only be targeting the business-to-business and business-to-consumer

segments, but would also explore the new markets of

government-to-consumers and business-to-government.
