LG to phase out LCD monitors

BANGALORE, INDIA: LG Electronics, a leading player in PC monitor market, has decided to phase out the LCD monitors from 2012 onwards.

Confirming this here today, Jin Lee, IT Group Marketing Head, LG Electronics said that LG would bet on LED and 3G monitors.

LG Electronics has recently introduced a 3D Cinema monitor, world slimmest LED monitors (7.2 mm) and IPS monitors. The new products will be available across leading towns in the coming weeks, Jin Lee said.

LG Electronics also announced that it would soon enter the laptop market. The company is  planning to launch its full range of laptops within next two months.

The news of LG venturing into the laptop market comes at a time when trends have indicated a nose-dive for monitor market in the coming years. LG Electronics commands a solid 18 per cent market share in the global monitor market.

In addition to laptops, LG is also expected to release Internet Television which would come with built-in flash memory. The device is targeted at home users who would like to visit websites but would not need higher storage.

It may be recalled here that there are about 60 lakh monitors being sold in India annually. However, according to various research reports, the monitor sales is expected to take a nose dive in three years' time due to the increasing popularity of laptops and tablet devices.
